Through their participation in the MIPF, policymakers and other stakeholders have the opportunity to actively engage in mutual learning, collaborate with peers and foster meaningful dialogue. The exchange of knowledge and experiences enhances participants’ understanding of the different stages of the industrial policymaking cycle, namely policy formulation and design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, which are crucial for sustainable industrial development. By sharing best practices, innovative approaches and lessons learned, participants contribute to the continuous improvement of industrial policies.
The Multilateral Industrial Policy Forum (MIPF) serves as a platform for policymakers, development researchers and business professionals to come together to enhance multilateral collaboration on industrial policies. UNIDO established the MIPF with the goal of stimulating discussions on how industrial policies can best be leveraged to promote productivity and growth; strengthen resilience and environmental sustainability, and address societal challenges. By facilitating the exchange of ideas, the MIPF aims to drive inclusive and sustainable industrial development and accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals at both the regional and global levels.
Industrial Policy
The new generation of sustainable industrial policies effectively balances national interests, regional coordination and collaboration, and international governance in line with the global community’s commitments to the UN 2030 Development Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Energy Efficiency
Boosting energy efficiency is crucial for effective decarbonization, providing a highly cost-effective means to increase energy generation and expand the use of renewable sources. Prioritizing efficiency minimizes waste and reduces greenhouse gas emissions to sustainably meet growing energy demand.
Green Hydrogen
Green hydrogen can decarbonize hard-to-abate industries, such as steel and cement production. The replacement of fossil fuels with this clean alternative has the potential to revolutionize industrial development and be a gamechanger in the global transition to a low-carbon economy.
Digital Transformation
Digital transformation requires the implementation of multiple collaborative interventions aimed at increasing both technological and human capital capacity. Supporting the progress of developing countries up the technological ladder involves infrastructure financing and investment and education and training.
Gender Equality
Despite evidence showing that increasing women’s participation in industry has a positive impact on productivity and efficiency, women are still underrepresented in this sector. Even when women are included, they are not recognized as “agents of change”. There is a lot of room for improvement in the design of gender transformative industrial policies.
